Entry Criteria:     The candidate should hold a certificate of competency as Second Mate of a foreign going ship (Officer in charge of a navigational watch on ships of 500 GT or more) issued by Government of India and have approved sea –going service for a period of not less than 9 months for Phase I after obtaining 2M (FG) CoC

Course Description

This course provides training for candidates appearing for Chief Mate (FG) Phase I. This course covers part of the education and training required under Regulation II/2 and aims to meet the standards of competence specified in Section A-II/2 of the STCW 1978, as amended. The course curriculum is based on the contents of IMO Model course 7.01, Master and Chief Mate and the course outline/ detailed teaching syllabus as specified in STCW 2010 circular no.11 of 2012.
The examination of the Chief mate (FG) for certificate of competency is divided in 3 functions at the management level:

FUNCTION 1: NAVIGATION AT MANAGEMENT LEVEL
- Terrestrial and coastal Navigation
- Meteorology

FUNCTION 2 : CARGO HANDLING & STOWAGE AT MANAGEMENT LEVEL
- Cargo Handling and Stowage

FUNCTION 3 : CONTROLLING THE OPERATION OF THE SHIP & CARE FOR PERSONS ON BOARD AT THE MANAGEMENT  LEVEL
- Naval architecture paper I
- Ship safety, emergencies, maintenance and managerial skills
