This course provides training for candidates appearing for Chief Mate (FG) Phase I. This course covers part of the education and training required under Regulation II/2 and aims to meet the standards of competence specified in Section A-II/2 of the STCW 1978, as amended. The course curriculum is based on the contents of IMO Model course 7.01, Master and Chief Mate and the course outline/ detailed teaching syllabus as specified in STCW 2010 circular no.11 of 2012.
The examination of the Chief mate (FG) for certificate of competency is divided in 3 functions at the management level:
FUNCTION 1: NAVIGATION AT MANAGEMENT LEVEL
- Terrestrial and coastal Navigation
- Meteorology
FUNCTION 2 : CARGO HANDLING & STOWAGE AT MANAGEMENT LEVEL
- Cargo Handling and Stowage
FUNCTION 3 : CONTROLLING THE OPERATION OF THE SHIP & CARE FOR PERSONS ON BOARD AT THE MANAGEMENT LEVEL
- Naval architecture paper I
- Ship safety, emergencies, maintenance and managerial skills
