Course Description

The Maritime Labour Convention adopted by International Labour Organization on 23rd Feb 2006, is expected to be ratified in early 2011.  The convention includes 68 maritime labour instruments that ILO has introduced since 1920, many of which are not addressed by the present Flag Administration and shipping company management systems.

Upon entry into force, all ships coming within the scope of the Convention and being above 500 tons in international trade must have a Maritime Labour Certificate (with a Document of Maritime Labour Compliance attached) documenting compliance with requirements.

Personnel involved in verification of shipboard compliance will have to obtain a clear understanding of the regulations and codes within the MLC 2006. In order to assist them, ILO has developed a training program that prepares inspectors, trainers, masters, managers and others who are involved in verification activities.
