Course Description
Understanding and managing risk is of vital importance in all industries striving for improvement. Expectations and requirement for improved quality, safety and environmental performance are growing in parallel to demands for cost reduction and optimized operation. In shipping, risk assessment has gathered momentum since the advent of ISM code and has become a necessity after the promulgation of OCIMF’s guidance to "Tanker Management and Self Assessment".
Course Objective
Ability to identify occupational hazards, technical/environmental or business risks and determine the degree of risk involved.
- Controls to set in place to reduce the risk to tolerable limits. (as low as reasonably practical)
- To be able to carry out Risk Assessment for Key Shipboard operations.
- To be able to take Risk Decisions as per Risk Matrix.
Contents of the course
- Risk Assessment concept and purpose.
- Elements of Risk Assessment.
- Risk Assessment Practice - practical implementation on board.
- Computer based Risk Assessment program and its usage.
- Exercises on carrying out Risk Assessment for key shipboard operations in Navigation, Engine room, Cargo Operations and Deck maintenance.
