Course Description

Course Objective
The course will focus on accident analysis tools suitable for use in the maritime industry. The participants will be able to improve their skills regarding casualty investigation and analysis. As a result of tools and procedures introduced the participants will be able to lead investigations and to carry out a thorough analysis of accidents and incidents.

Contents of the course
Effective accident analysis is one option to reduce accidents and incidents in shipping companies. The necessary procedures and tools for effective accident and incident analysis are not necessarily part of the usual training profile in shipping companies. Many of these tools and procedures have been developed in other safety relevant industries, such as aviation, nuclear power or chemical industries. In recent years, thorough accident/incident investigation and analysis has become more and more the focus in the shipping business with the Course Objective to avoid damage to human life, the environment and property. This course will introduce selected tools and procedures that will enable the experienced investigator to improve its effectiveness and the quality of the analysis of maritime casualties and incidents.
